Cost Accountant

The Cost Accountant will establish standard costs for all component sand finished goods. S/he will analyze and monitor material, labor and freight variances against these standard costs.

This newly-established, key financial and accounting role will enable the senior management team to more effectively manage’s continued growth.

The Cost Accountant reports to the Controller, and works closely with the Purchasing and Operations Departments.

Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to: • Management Reporting / Analysis• Analyze the elements of cost of sales to determine:• Causes of changes in margin % • Cost / margin trends of products• Errors from incorrect pricing or costs• Opportunities for margin improvement• Appropriateness of standard costs• Effects of product mix• Labor efficiency and productivity

• Impact of cost changes• Work with Operations to determine reasons for variances to standards• Develop and monitor profitability by customer and product• Participate in cost reduction team

• Standard Costs• Maintain and update history of standard costs and transfer costs• Assist in standard cost change process• Assist in transfer price change process

• Inventory• Reconcile the monthly inventory reporting system to the general ledger and make appropriate adjustments. • Work with Operations to coordinate, monitor, and report cycle counts. Coordinate the auditing and analysis of the physical inventory. • Manage the inventory reporting and reconciliation of inventory remote warehouse

• Project Tracking• Track and report hours and expenses related to projects• Assist in developing and maintaining reporting of post-launch activity of projects• Assist in allocation of Marketing and R&D costs from UMI to the other entities. • General Accounting/Other• Assist in monthly and year end financial closing process.• Assist in annual budgeting process relative to product cost• Perform other projects as needed.

Knowledge and Skill Required • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting• Three to five years of cost accounting in a manufacturing environment is required.• Two years experience with automated accounting software programs is required. Experience with Great Plains or Navision software is a plus.• Excellent Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook skills, intermediate to advanced Excel skills are required.

• Strong Problem Solving / Decision Making skills required.• Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently• The ability to effectively manage time, meet deadlines and balance multiple priorities.• The ability to interact with all levels of our organization, including senior executives, Operations and Purchasing teams.
